Fundraising Update18/08/2011
Since our last update, donations have increased by R161,680.00 giving us a total since the launch of R1,352,780.00. The largest number of donors to date come from the 1990's while the largest amount is credited to the 1950's with R551,700.00. The year groups in the lead with the greatest number of donors are 1968, 1994 and 1990.
I want to emphasise again that this good start has been achieved by a mere 75 donors. If we were able to contact and get donations from 50 donors per year group (i.e. 3000 donors ) and were to extrapolate the amount received from 75 to the 3000, we would raise R54 million! I have checked my arithmetic a number of times and I am sure I am correct. I must point out that the donations received are based on money paid in already as well as pledges, so whatever we achieve will be over three years.
In answer to a number of queries, the end date for the pressure eight week campaign ( i.e.16 September ) is not cast in stone and year groups may and undoubtedly will go on contacting classmates beyond that. There are also some groups that are planning a few fundraising activities in addition to individual approaches. The purpose of suggesting an end date to the canvassing side of the campaign is that we do not wish to create boredom or donor fatigue resulting in a counter-productive attitude setting in. One can only remain excited and enthusiastic for so long. With this in mind, please note that we are almost half way through the pressure period and that there are still quite a few years without any donations forthcoming. I do anticipate that, particularly due to the teething problems we have had with certain forms of payment, that we will, in all probability extend the pressure period by a couple of weeks.
I am still struck, on a daily basis, by the tremendous enthusiasm and support for this campaign so I remain excited and positive as to our ultimate success.
Good luck and keep going
Bill
